Yukon Quest
Teams arrive in Eagle Alaska. Eagle is an isolated community during the Winter months. The Richardson highway that connects the township with the rest of the State is not maintained in the 'off' season. Most teams take a rest at the Eagle checkpoint which is housed in an old schoolhouse. Volunteers in Eagle empty their pantries to fill and warm the bellies of the mushers that pass through. For them the Quest goes beyond being an annual sporting event - rather - it is a connection to the hindsighted glories of a early age when a teams arrival signaled the delivery of mail and news from the outside.
